잔잔한 산미, 은은한 오크, 체리와 후추향까지...근데 3시간을 나둬도 피지 않는 단단한 놈

Winemaker Chris Mazepink says: "We go through a lot of different combinations—a barrel of this, a barrel of that—we even get into doing a half barrel of this and a half barrel of that. With Homer, for instance, the finished wine we settled on—I must have looked at about seventy different possible combinations before we settled on that one."

The Shea Homer, named in honor of the winning hit in one of Dick Shea’s favorite sports, is designed to be, Mazepink said, “the darkest, most concentrated, and most robust Pinot we make. Homer has always been about the best barrels in the cellar.”

 

Avalon tasting notes:

Viewing the wine in glass, it is an intense black purple garnet color. The scents are of cherry cream, cherry liqueur, black cherry, black raspberry, white pepper, sweet violets, hints of vanilla, and soft toast. Flavors are of gushingly sweet black cherry, red pie cherry, Rainier cherry, Queen Ann cherry, and white pepper. The texture of the wine in the mouth is velvety and lush. There's a very complex floral perfume component to the wine's flavor that doesn't show as violets or roses or white flowers but is a combination of many floral fragrances.

The word "voluminous" comes to mind in describing the finish of this wine. It's a powerful wine, with uplifting acidity adding an effect of transparency and layering, opening the palate to layers and layers of fruit, exotic perfume, hints of sweet toast, spices, and vanilla in the finish. The tannins are present, perfectly balanced, they simply don't intrude but contribute a generous structure for aging. Drink now if you have to, but this wine can be cellared through 2015.

Elk Cove

엘크 코브는 오레곤 중에서도 가장 유서 깊고 신망받는 와이너리중에 하나이다. 1974년 Pat과 Adam Campbell에 의해 처음 세워졌으며, 그들의 목표는 오직 장인정신이 깃든 와인을 생산하는 것이었고, 현재 그들이 생산하고 있는 와인은 세계에서 가장 경쟁력있는 와인 중의 하나이다.

엘크 코브의 포도밭은 윌러멧 밸리(Willamett Valley) 북쪽의 3개의 독립된 밭으로 나뉘어져 재배되고 있는데, 120 에이커에 이르는 총면적 중 15 에이커만이 엘크 코브의 와인을 위해 재배된다. 포도밭은 남향의 가파른 경사를 이루고 있으며, 훌륭한 배수성을 가진 Willakenzie와 Laurelwood 타입의 토양으로 덮여 있어 세계수준의 와인을 만드는데 훌륭한 조건을 갖추고 있다. 이렇듯 적절한 토양의 선택과 섬세한 포도재배 및 관리를 통해 얻어진 소량의 포도들은 짙고 깊은 엘크 코브의 만의 대표적 특징들을 만들어 낸다.

 첨엔 발란스가 영 아니다. 산지오베제 같은 느낌. 시간이 지나면서 변해가는 피노누아의 특징. 이맛에 피노를 즐긴다.

얌힐 강(Yamhill River)으로부터 서쪽으로 7마일정도 떨어진 곳에 위치한 레멜슨의 포도밭은 남향으로 펼쳐진 아름답고 완만한 경사지 위에 자리하고 있으며, 멀리 코스트 레인지(Coast Range) 산맥을 바라보고 있다. 또한 유기농과 방식으로 포도를 재배하며 피노 누아를 생산하는 스터머 포도원(Stermer Vineyard), 떼아즈 셀렉션(Thea's Selection), 리드 앤 레이놀드 포도원(Reed & Reynolds Vineyard), 제롬리져브(Jerome Reserve)와 샤르도네를 생산하는 왓쳐 포도원(Wascher Vineyard) 그리고 피노 그리를 생산는 티카스 런(Tikka's Run)으로 구성되어 있다.

이 와이너리는 유비쿼터스 바코드 리더를 발명한 Jerome Lemelson (발명가 Edison 다음으로 특허를 많이 가지고 있음)의 아들인 Eric Lemelson에 의해 설립되었으며, 완벽하게 갖춰진 첨단설비로 프랑스 부르고뉴 지방의 전통적인 핸드메이드 와인을 만드는 방식을 표방하고 있다.  1999년 처음 와인을 생산하기 시작하여 매년 와인 와인스팩테이터 및 기타 와인 평론가로부터 높은 평가를 받고 있다.

벨벳처럼 매끄럽고 계피, 레즈베리, 자두 맛이 층층이 느껴지며 길고 조화로운 끝맛이 일품이다. 균형이 아주 잘 이루어져 있어 마치 세개의 고리가 입안에서 춤을 추는 느낌을 준다.

 

Domaine Serene

프랑스 부르고뉴 와인에 대해 열정을 갖고 있던 미국 제약회사의 부호에 의해 1990년 설립된 와이너리로 윌러맷 밸리(Willamette Valley) 북쪽에 위치하고 있으며, 오레곤 내에서의 최고의 포도 재배지역으로 알려진 던디힐즈(Dundee Hills)의 포도를 사용해 와인을 만들고 있다. 2004년 6월 39명의 와인전문가들과 함께한 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti(DRC)의 와인과 블라인드 테이스팅에서 1998, 1999, 2000년 빈티지 모두 DRC의 그랑 크뤼 와인들보다 호평을 받았다.

최고의 와인을 만들기 위해 도멘 서린은 포도가 자라는 것을 억제하는 과정을 3회 시행하여 농축된 원주를 얻고, 포도를 수확 할 때 잎이나 이상이 있는 송이는 철저히 걸러내며, 또한 프리런 쥬스(Free-run Juice-수확한 포도더미의 무게에 의해 자연적으로 흘러나오는 포도원액)만을 사용하는 등 세심한 주의를 기울인다. 12가지의 프랑스 쿠퍼를 사용하여 숙성하며 너무 오크맛이 강하게 되는 것을 피하기 위해 토스팅를 약하게 한다. Bordelais pedigree Sylvain 이라는 보르도에서 만든 부르고뉴용 오크를 주로 사용하고 정제나 필터링은 하지 않으며, 병입 후 18개월을 숙성시킨 뒤 출시한다.

 테이스팅 노트 

밝은 루비의 느낌과 체리 빛을 띠고 아몬드, 딸기 등의 작은 과일의 향이 느껴지며 오크숙성에서 나오는 타닌을 느낄 수 있는 풀 바디의 와인이다. 새 오크통에서 숙성 시킨 후, 수확 후 12개월 후 병입되었다.

 

꼬뜨 드 본 지역 내에서도 가장 물이 좋은 상뜨네에서 양조되는 와인으로 부르고뉴 레드와인의 참맛을 느낄 수 있으며 향이 깊고 여운이 오래 남는다.

Description:  Rocche Dei Manzoni, whose owners are Iolanda and Valentino Migliorini, have a total area of 40 hectares planted with vines in the best positions within the municipal boundaries of Monforte D'Alba, right in the heart of Langhe.

 

The following grapes are grown Nebbiolo for Barolo, Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba as well as black Pinot and Chardonnay. The head office is situated in Localita Manzoni Soprani, as well as the cellar which is equipped with stainless steel tanks and the wines are stored in underground cellars at controlled temperature as they mature.

 

A garnet red coloured wine with a complex, spicy nose that leads to a full, austere palate with intense, ripe tannins on the finish.

 

과일향이 올라오니 산미가 강하다. 근데 보통의 바롤로 보다는 쪼이는 맛이 덜하다.
